Schools have been keen to change the design and layout of their learning environments to promote more active and collaborative learning styles.
There have been a lot of great primary school refurbishments and new builds in the last few years and you can see the examples using the school links below.
Secondary new builds are considering the design of their learning spaces to facilitate innovative, inclusive and flexible ways to adapt and change teaching and learning practice. Boroughmuir High School introduced popular social spaces in the atrium and corridors. The new Queensferry High School (opened August 2020) has been designed to provide a variety of learning spaces throughout the building. The replacement for Castlebrae Community High School is being designed with the aid of 3D technology allowing the users to see how the interiors could look so they can make informed suggestions for the designs. Both of these schools are looking at how they can design and use their learning environments in creative and innovative ways.
