We are proposing to build a new Primary School and Nursery at Granton Waterfront. The new proposed building will be able to accommodate a Nursery for 128 pupils between the ages of 2 and 5 and a new two stream (15 classes) primary school with the potential for an Enhanced Support Base (ESB) with four additional classes. The facility will have the ability to expand to up to a three stream (22 classes) primary school.
Our proposals are for a new 2 storey building to be constructed in the middle of the site, with an associated single storey wing to accommodate the nursery. The main school and nursery playgrounds are to be located south from the building. Dedicated playground areas for the ESB and food growing areas would be located immediately to the north of the building. The most northern section of the site will be dedicated to accommodating the school playing fields and a natural park with destination learning zones. This section could also be made available for community use outside of school hours.
You’ll be able to view the proposals online after of our first event, including the site analysis, proposed layout and concept design.
If the proposals are approved, we expect the new building to be completed in 2029.

Background Information
Granton Waterfront has been identified as a Strategic Development Area in the Edinburgh City Plan 2030. The current plans show that new developments will eventually deliver more than 5,000 new homes.
A new primary school in Granton Waterfront was included as an action in the Local Development Plan in 2016 (now City Plan 2030). Proposals for the new neighbourhood include a large site within the main development zone for a new primary school and nursery.
A catchment area for the new primary school will be established following consultation. This new catchment area could result in changes to the existing catchment areas of Craigroyston Primary School, Granton Primary School, Pirniehall Primary School, Broughton High School, and Craigroyston Community High School.
Following the statutory consultation held between August and October 2024, we have now published the outcomes paper presenting the findings and recommendations to be considered by the City of Edinburgh Council on 19th December 2024. You can access the outcomes report and other supporting information using this link:
www.edinburgh.gov.uk/grantonwaterfrontps
Copies of the statutory consultation paper were available for inspection at the Council Offices at City Chambers and Waverley Court, at Granton Library and at the schools affected by the proposals
This public consultation was conducted according to the requirements of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010 and it ran between Thursday 22 August 2024 and until Thursday 3 October 2024
The new primary school is expected to open August 2029.
